Introducing: Our Marketing and Social Media Director
Hello, my name is Rita Onun, I am the Marketing/Social Media Director for Hearing the Little Heartbeats and I am currently a B.A Psychology/Sociology major at King’s University. I am a Nigerian Canadian who moved to Canada about 9 years ago because my parents wanted me to have better opportunities. Their aim was to provide my siblings and I with the best resources and to pave a path that was different from theirs. My dream has always been to do something of purpose that not only benefits those around me but also brings joy to the world.
As a Canadian I have the privilege of having access to all of my health care needs without question or difficulty. Unfortunately, this is not the case for countries that are faced with political, geographical, and societal issues that influence the availability and accessibility to general healthcare. Guatemala is one of these countries and the big issue of drug-shortages continues to plague its citizens, particularly those living in rural areas.
My journey with HLH began because I wanted to make a difference and I wanted to pave a way forward for those in need. I also wanted to shine a light on the various healthcare and medicinal issues that various third-world countries are currently facing. My goal was to bring people together to find a solution and to spark a conversation. Before joining HLH I was quite unsure of what that role would look like when put into action. I had heard about HLH through fellow team members and after a year of getting to know the organization I decided to join the team. I heard countless stories about the experiences that gave birth to the founding of HLH as an organization and I was deeply motivated by the passion and ambition to rise to the call of those in need. I too wanted to bring global awareness to the issues plaguing Guatemalan communities and I wanted to advocate for equal rights and access to a functional healthcare system.
I have always believed in the power of community, in the power of God, and in the power of strength in numbers. So, I would like to invite you, the reader, to join me and HLH in furthering our mission. I invite you to take a stand and to bring awareness to a critical issue wrecking havoc in the lives of our brothers and sisters in Guatemala. I invite you to join me and inspire change.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE AN IMPACT ON THE HEALTH OF THE NATIONS AND THE GENERATIONS TO COME.
The mission of HLH is to increase accessibility to medications and supplies for healthcare facilities in Guatemala.
